In December 2010 a dedicated team of creative young people were recruited to organise and host The Lab’s annual showcase event- The Lab Takeover. The team attended weekly meetings to discuss plans for the event and participated in a training programme including Photography, Music Production and Animation workshops.

For the event, the team decided to hold a flyer design competition which was open to all young people between the ages of 11-23 years. The selected winner- Beres Williams- won a Sony Digital Camera and worked with RollingSound’s photographer/graphic designer Nayotia to produce the final flyer which was used to promote The Lab Takeover event.

The Lab Takeover was held on Friday 25th March in Lewisham Town Centre. The event consisted of a range of live performances from some fresh young talent and guest stars such as Frontliners and Infecta. The acts included singers, dancers, MCs, rappers, a guitarist and spoken work artists. An open mic session was also held at the end of the show!

JD Sports vouchers were up for grabs for the freestyle dancing competition which was open to everyone at the event. A raffle was also included in the event in which some great prizes were on offer: -Nintendo DSi -Ipod Shuffle -A pair of Onitsuka Tiger trainers donated by Mischief PR -‘ON MY WAY TO SUCCESS’ clothing donated by MJay Clothing -Bead Design chains in the characters of Super Mario and Rallo (The Cleveland Show).

All proceeds from the raffle were donated to The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust. Taster workshops in Music Production, Video Game Design and DJ’ing were also taking place on The Lab

RollingSound would like to say a big thank you to all the young people involved in organising The Lab Takeover event, all the performers and everyone who attended!
